The valley, 32Km from Skardu or one hour drive by jeep, is the gateway to the great mountain peaks of the Karakoram includes the World’s second highest Peak K-2 (8611 meters). The higher one travels the more beautiful and enchanting becomes the scene. The entire valley is rich in walnuts, grapes, peaches, pears, and apricots. The Amburiq mosque built during 14th century A.D. by Syed Mir Ali Hamadani and renovated by AKCSP is located in Shigar. The old historical Fonghkar Fort of Shigar built approximately 450 years ago has also been renovated by AKCSP. The opening ceremony will be held in 2005.
